Having lost his mother at a very young age with no recollection of what she looks like, Tang San has only the soft, lulling voice in his dreams to comfort and accompany him. He was raised by his father, Tang Hao, a blacksmith, who always drinks himself into a stupor and appears to wallow in deep sorrow. Tang San, being the filial son, would be the one to care for his father when he becomes this way. When Tang Hao is sober, he appears to be strict and distant from Tang San, but secretly, Tang Hao is very proud of his son’s abilities, and he teaches Tang San the ways of the blacksmith profession. Tang Hao also bestows a powerful martial manual, Xuan Tian Records, to him, to which Tang San practices diligently and daily on his own. His father would later tell him that the powers learned from the manual is the perfect counterpart to Tang Sang’s martial soul and will help him become even more powerful. For many years, Tang San lives peacefully with his father in their humble cottage within the secluded Saint of Soul Village, sheltered away from the outside world.

Then one day, Tang San’s world changes.

During a solo excursion into the forest alone, he was met by a colossal creature. Tang San’s ability to escape the danger unscathed caught the attention of a passing soul master, who was summoned to the village to hunt down this precise creature that just attacked Tang San and terrorized the villagers. From the soul master, Tang San learned about Soul Beasts, Martial Souls, and Soul Masters. The realization that there was more to the world beyond the boundaries of Saint of Soul Village peaked Tang San’s curiosity and enticed him to set off on his own journey to become a Soul Master. Using all his efforts to convince his father to allow him to go, Tang San’s father finally relents but under one condition: that Tang San promises to never go near Martial Soul Hall. Curious as to why and feeling it has something to do with his mother, Tang San promises, and secretly vows to himself to seek out the truth from Martial Soul Hall about his mother. With the blessings of his father, and a promise to him that he will not reveal to anyone the second martial soul in his left hand, Tang San sets off to Nuo Ding Academy where he meets Xiao Wu, a spunky, energetic orphan girl with a martial soul of a bunny. Unbeknownst to Tang San, Xiao Wu also harbours a big secret—she is not what she seems.

Tang San and Xiao Wu become fast friends, and later sworn brother and sister who will always protect one another. Under the guidance of Tang San’s shifu, Yu Xiao Gang, both Tang San and Xiao Wu achieved their first martial soul rings respectively. As their powers grow, Yu Xiao Gang realizes they need more guidance than he can provide. Hence he takes Tang San and Xiao Wu and enrolls them into the Shrek Academy where they join five other prodigies from various regions in their quest to advance their soul rings. Strong in their teamwork coalescing their powers together, the seven students become known throughout the land as the “Shrek Seven Devils”. With their growing fame from winning many tournaments all over Douluo Continent, the talents of the Seven Devils eventually caught the attention of the soul masters from Martial Soul Hall, and they are invited to face off in the ultimate battle.

What awaits them at Martial Soul Hall? Will Tang San find out the truth about his mother? Who is Xiao Wu and why is she so interested to uncover the origins of martial souls?
