X-Fire Episode 3

***Recorded Nov 4, 2015 ; aired Dec 5, 2015

Episode Summary

It’s week three of the competition, aka. the elimination round—the two groups who ultimately rank 7 and 8 will be eliminated, and the two groups who rank 5 and 6 will be split up. Only the groups who place 1 to 4 are safe.

In this episode we can see how hard Bin JunJie took their seventh place ranking last week. For real, they got shafted and it was 100% unfair and unreasonable. Like JunJie said, they made no mistakes, it was a perfect performance. Yet, the groups who dropped their mic and props were ranked higher than them. It was also unreasonable for the judge to say that JunJie “did not sing it like Michael Jackson.” JunJie is not Michael, he would never sound like Michael. He sang the cover with his own style like any artists covering other people’s songs would do and made the song his own!

***Inserting my personal audience opinion in here: this just shows the show is rigged and they’re just playing out their cards to setup for the team who will end up winning in the show. For the record this show never gave a good explanation for that ranking. Alright, that’s my two cents.

Two days before Episode 3 recording, Xiao Zhan and Han MuBo appears to have a disagreement. Gathered around the bench with their teammates, Xiao Zhan and Han MuBo were deep in earnest discussion. I appreciate the show showing this clip because we can see Xiao Zhan’s work ethics and his definition of readiness—to practice to the extent where you can do the performance with your eyes closed. It’s not just empty words that “I’ll be able to do it,” but demonstrated in one’s actions and being able to show up with your homework completed, error-free, when it’s showtime. This is how you grasp opportunities when it comes flying at you—a principle Zhan Zhan has emphasized many times in his interviews. I love this about him.

Long DanNi’s critique leaves me scratching my head wondering if we’re watching the same show? It makes no sense when she says Xiao Zhan is “not coordinated.” Even Chun Chun had an “are you kidding me” look when she heard that.

It was very touching during Bin JunJie & Guo ZiFan’s segment. These guys really support each other 100% even though they are competitors. And of course! The road getting up to this point has not been easy. Xiao Zhan really gets uncomfortable seeing people cry. haha I love how he comforts JunJie and ZiFan and tried to get them to stop thinking and talking about elimination by bringing up their new team cheer.

The ending is really sad. These guys were around each other for a good half of 2015, training hard together, vaulting over every elimination rounds to make it on the show, traveling to Beijing together to continue this journey, etc. Such a long journey only to be split up by another elimination. And I swear, the show is so cruel to keep saying “Team Shu Qi” when announcing the duos eliminated. It’s so cruel to Shu Qi who already feels responsible that two of her members got cut.

And Xiao Zhan now has to switch over to the Red Team. He was very down and he shared his conflicted feelings in a short clip. I have shared the clip on his weekly vlog page and it’s the first clip at the top of the page. He shares more of his thoughts about it in his Dec. 11, 2015 weekly vlog.
